MASAR's primary purpose is to promulgate standards for search and rescue volunteers, provide quality control for search team members, promote training for volunteers, and assist member SAR Units in both training and certifying their members. MASAR also performs vital networking services between the volunteer Units and user agencies, and is the primary dispatching service for Maine SAR Units. MASAR has insurance coverage, office expenses, and training expenses to meet. None of MASAR's volunteers are paid, so all of your donations will go directly to search and rescue efforts.

Functions that MASAR volunteers provide include: wilderness high angle search and rescue, air scent dogs for wilderness area search, tracking/trailing dogs for wilderness search, water search dogs for water search, and mounted (horseback) teams for wilderness searching and perimeter control. Without the help of MASAR and volunteer searchers, search and rescue in Maine would be much less efficient and effective.

Monetary donations to MASAR may be sent by check to:

Maine Association for Search and Rescue
14 Crossing Way Suite 3
#1001
Augusta, ME 04330

You might also choose to support one of our SAR units directly as well.
